ETTALONG BEACH WATERFRONT A WINNER

Based on the large crowds over the Christmas and holiday period, there is little doubt that Gosford City Council’s $5.4 M foreshore makeover of the Ettalong Beach Foreshore has proved a huge success. Following successful lobbying by the Peninsula Chamber over the last 15 years, the foreshore upgrade is almost complete with the new foreshore café/ restaurant due to open in mid-March. Access to the beachfront and upgraded reserve was made available just prior to Christmas whilst the café/restaurant was being completed. Recent works have also included the demolition of the old toilet block and the end of Bangalow Street which has opened up the beautiful vista. It has been particularly satisfying to see young families once again enjoying the re-nourished beach and picnicking in the new reserve which includes BBQ facilities and playground equipment for kids. The fore- shore upgrade was funded primarily by a $2M grant by the Federal Government and $2.9M by Gosford City Coun- cil. The balance was provided by the NSW State Government. Thanks should go to former Federal Member for Robertson, Deborah O’Neill who pledged the $2M of Federal funding during her term in office. It was this money that acted as the catalyst for the Council funding which enabled the work to be completed. Gosford City Council and its contractor Scape Constructions have carried out a first class job and clearly demonstrates the new “open for business” attitude that has turned round the fortunes of the Council. The Vietnam Veterans new memorial stands proud on the reserve and the dedication will take place on Saturday 22nd Feb- ruary commencing 10.15am. Fifteen years in the making, it is a joy to see the final stage completed on the Ettalong Beach waterfront.
