The Peninsula

The Peninsula is a unique residential and business environment with a population in excess of 32,000 people and more than 19,000 homes. It accounts for more that 27% of the population of the Gosford City Council region.

Surrounded by highly distinctive natural and scenic backdrops, the Peninsula area covers around 1,500 hectares. It is separated from nearby coastal settlements by national parks and on three sides by waterways, providing extensive waterfrontage with panoramic views.

The Peninsula area is made up of the three town centres Woy Woy, Ettalong, and Umina which offer a variety of retailing and commercial services, leisure and tourist activities as well as local employment.

Woy Woy

Woy Woy comprises of 34,000 square metres of commercially zoned land of which 60% consists of retail businesses together with a mix of professional services and major supermarkets including Deepwater Plaza and Peninsula Plaza. Woy Woy represents the commercial heart of the Peninsula and vital commuter transport hub. The town centre is enhanced by the Woy Woy waterfront precinct and Woy Woy Channel with ferry links to Davistown.

Ettalong Beach

Ettalong Beach comprises of 11, 750 square metres of commercially zoned land of which the majority is small retailers, cafes and restaurants. Dominated by the Ettalong Beach Club and Mantra Resort, Ettalong Beach is the centre of tourist activity on the Peninsula. The centre is supported by the Ettalong Markets complex and Paradiso Theatre which forms an integral link between the ferry wharf and town centre.

Umina Beach

Umina Beach comprises 18,500 square metres of retail/commercial floor space consisting primarily of small to medium retailers and larger supermarkets. Umina Beach represents the main strip retail hub of the Peninsula and has undergone major changes with the addition of both a Woolworths and  Aldi in the precinct supplementing the existing Coles supermarket.

In addition there is a network of open spaces, cycleways, schools and community facilities plus health and medical services located within a relatively compact area.

Other than Kariong, the Peninsula is Gosford City's closest population centre to the F3 freeway and also has rail access to the metropolitan centre.

The Brisbane Water area of the Peninsula is one of Sydney's principal sources of fresh oysters and this local industry is a basis for considerable local employment with the annual Brisbane Water Oyster Festival recognising this contribution.
